i got it a month ago, the quality of games is 11 out of ten and its fast, very fast ESPECIALLY for gaming

Question by claireandmouse: How do I know if it is possible for my local computer tech to install Windows XP on a new Dell laptop?
I am looking at purchasing a new Dell Studio 17 Laptop. Unfortunately Dell is completely worthless in letting me know if after I removed Vista if the installation of XP would go alright? I would assume it would…but the techs at Dell all told me different things, so I don’t know what to believe? I work from home, and having Vista isn’t even an option…I don’t want to even THINK about another type of computer…this is what I want…but I need to know if XP will work on it. Any ideas?
(P.S….I was wondering if the reason they are hesitant to say is just b/c of marketing agreements, and also new features like the backlit keyboard that might not work with XP?)

Sure, they could do it, but you’re going to have to hand them a copy of XP to do it. They’re not going to use one of their own copies to do it.

This is my wife’s solution to my accumulated photography "junk" which was cluttering up our den. She was a dedicated soul. She not only picked it out, but allowed me to make the final choice between different "acceptable" units. Then she sanded and painted it herself. It is a computer armoire from a local unfinished furniture company. See the notes for more info.

Strobist: Taken with my Nikon Coolpix 5700 so I could have my D80 with 70-200 VR in the shot. Nuked the scene with Sunpak 383 through satin umbrella against the camera at camera left– sorry, but I didn’t note the power. Fired w/GI radio trigger.

I am wanting to get the “Acer Black 17.3″ Aspire AS7714Z-4643 Laptop PC” & I have only heard one review about it, which was good.

Hello hello!

Upon looking up the specs. of that laptop i noticed they are pretty nice for the price! I’m assuming that you aren’t a hard core gamer which is good in this case, because they laptop cant handle a whole lot in the game department.

It does however have a nice amount of ram, and a pretty decent processor.

Now about your other question of site to store. If you can get the PC at the store then it is recommended. Site to store just makes it so that if they don’t have it in your Wal-Mart, then they will send it, so that you can pick it up from the Wal-Mart of your choosing. Hope this helps!

This is my current workspace. Not too much to see, but I like it. I don’t have any other place for my record player, so it has wound up here (I don’t really use that desk-space anyways [other than for record playing ]). The desktop is running vista business and has all three monitors connected to it.

6150 is just slow integrated graphics. Try lowest game setting, low resolution and 16bit color quality instead of 32bit. Also allocate maximum shared memory for graphics.

Personally, I have a Toshiba and I love it. Its not as up to date as the ones you’re looking at, but its been great, since 2008 and still going (touch wood), which says a lot when you consider most modern things!!

If you’re not going to be using it for much, then just get whichever is the most basic. You can always buy a card reader separately, too.

Macintosh Laptop.
The old laptop is only 9 I know thats alot. But its worth it you wont be diappointed I promise. It has a great webcam and is great for storing things.

I re-bought this Tamron again all my 4 copies have been superb and extremely sharp and better than most of Canon lenses in terms of absolute resolution.

I hope next year Tamron will release SP-AF17-50f2.8VC, then I will ditch my Canon EF-S17-55f2.8IS, which is heavy and bulky.

I also bought the 28-300VC from Tamron and I know their VC works better than any of these images-tabilizers regardless of their types CCD shift or lens shift( IS, VR , SSS, OS , SR .ETC)………………Tamron really rocks, producing this amazing lens at this price……

I am not comparing just a copy of this Tamron and a copy of the EF-S17-55f2.8, but 4 of each lens and also compared them to my Nikon AF-S17-55f2.8DX , so I am sure most of internet lens reviews are not fair , but biased towards Canon , Nikon and other name brands.

So take these reviews of lenses with a large grain of salt , seriously.

If any one says this Tamorn is a junk , you can guess that he or she might ‘ve spent
too much on an over priced Canon lens like EF-S17-55IS f2.8(I did too) , so he has to console himself by not believing this Tamron is a stellar or as good as the Canon except its AF speed in low light , but even that is not a serious issue , the Tamron still nails it , most of time the Af is spot-on any way……….I never experienced BF or FF with this lens or any Sigma (besides the older 18-200DC) , I personally do not beleive it is the lens, it is the camera ……..seem like most of thoese who have had or reported AF issues with this Tamron used it on Rebel XT or XTI.

Only one weakness of this Tamorn is the flare you can see top above in this photo.

But the Canon Ef-S17-55f2.8 has the same flare chracteristic so I guess all f2.8 zooms share this issue.

I will get a Sigma 18-50f2.8 macro for my Nikon bodies as soon as my local dealor gets it, I will compare it against my EF-S17-55 and Tamorn 17-50 I have 2 of thoese so I think I will be able to do better comparison than most of those moronic resolution chart shooting sites based in Europe.

I think after my 10-20EX , I like Sigma better than before and I am getting the new AF10-20f3.5EXHSM for my D300, and I dont shoot Jpeg so the infamous Sigma yellow cast is not very serious issue or at least the color cast is changeable in DPP or C1 RAW convertor.

I personally hate ACR5.1 Adobe , I have it but never use it due to its color and handling of noise , I prefer to keep extra noise with a bit more low contrast detail than theACR5.1.

Also, hate photoshop , which does not work on my Linux computers, so I have had to have an Win model at home..

So last week, I was forced to buy a laptop with win Vista for photoshop CS4 and ACR5.2.

I may try another RAW converter soon but for now use the Capture1.

Question by tigresavalialvi: How to plug a Daewoo TV/Monitor to my laptop?
I have this monitor that I bough and I’ve been using as a TV ever since. It came with a cable to plug it to a computer (I can plug it in my laptop perfectly fine) so I plug the TV to my Notebook and the screen just goes black (I can still watch TV if I put it on TV mode) but I assumed that I had to put it on the button that said “PC” on the remote. I don’t have the manual, so I really don’t know what to do. Uhm, my laptop is an Acer Aspire 1691WLMi (I’ve used projectors in it perfectly fine before) and the TV/Monitor is a flat silver one, about 17 inches i think, Daewoo.

Question by SaraM: What components are necessary in a laptop?
I’m heading of to college in the fall, and have decided to get a Toshiba laptop. Now I need to narrow it down more. Just as a warning-I know nothing about computer components!

I will be using it for browsing, miscrosoft office, and the occassional game. I might download some music, but not much, and I don’t plan on saving millions of videos/music to my laptop.

I’m also looking for a good price!

Here are my questions:
What size screen- 15.4″ or 17″?
How much memory is minimal?
What processor should I get?
How much hard drive space/ RAM (minimal)?
What other options do you reccomend?

I’d like specifics (e.g. 17″, Core 2 Duo, 1024MB memory, 1GB RAM….etc)

first of all toshiba? hp is by far the best and since your going to college its better now
screen size the bigger the better…
memory 512mb
processor pentium 4
60 gb of hardrive space ram 1GB
the hp pavillion zd8000 series i recommend

I set up the mini-office area for the hubby in our spare room. I set up the PC desk (took about an hour) and moved the desktop into this room. He picked the desk color, even though I wanted birch. At least we don’t have to argue about the printer—it’s all his.

Ok I am illiterate when it comes to picking which computer is best so these are my choices that I have also what is a good amount of memory?

My 17" LCD that I’ve had for the past 3 years, connected to my PC finally went out the other day. I’ve got an old CRT monitor hooked up to my PC and I had to put it to the side of my desk so it would fit. Those things are so HUGE! The iBook is now sitting where the 17" LCD was.

So Im planning on ordering a new Dell Studio 17 Laptop and I don’t know a whole lot about computers. I want to know if its going to be good at gaming at all. Its going to have…

For less than half that price, you can get a desktop that will run Crysis (I think the game with the highest graphics out there) at Ultra-Super-High (my friend hacked it to look better, and it runs at 100 FPS). Gaming laptops are too expensive.
To answer your question, it’s a pretty good computer (for a Dell), and will most likely run a lot of games.

Day 56: February 25, 2008- The Macbook

So this cheese-tastic photo can only mean one thing. Yes. The macbook has arrived. The FedEx man knocked on my door at 10:30 this morning…which kind of sucked considering I had only had 2 hours of sleep.

anyways…I can’t say it’s all that I hoped it would be. It would have been nice had apple bothered to tell me that "oh yea, you can connect wirelessly, you just have to buy the wireless router, have it installe (which comcast has the audacity to ask for 0 JUST for installation) and then pay another MORE a month on your internet bill to access the internet.

Are you effing kidding me? So…apparently my uncle is going to mess with it so we can get it for free or something…but that can’t happen until Saturday. So for now, the laptop aspect of this computer does me absolutely no good, as I’m still sitting at a desk, connected by this God-forsaken Ethernet cord from my desktop.

but seriously…that pisses me off. I paid 00 for this stupid thing…and it cant even get on the internet for free?

I know tons of people with macbooks and I’ve never heard them talk about having to pay such an outrageous amount. That’s just annoying. Am i just an idiot for thinking something might not actually make me pay out the arse for some bit of service, or am I missing something?

…I’m sure the 2hrs of sleep haven’t helped much either, though.

Anyways, after I took it out of the box, I was definitely happy I decided to go with the 15in instead of the 17…the 15in is just the right size…I can’t imagine lugging the 17 around! Aside from the internet idiocies, I guess it’s a nice computer…but considering I’m wanting to "start fresh" with this (as in not transferring over the thousands of photos from the old computer to this one), I haven’t really messed with too many files that I normally mess with. So time will tell, I suppose.

Question by Magicalhobo: Laptop making strange noises?
I’m using a Dell studio 17 laptop. It keeps making a noise like a humming/grinding noise on the top lefthand corner when facing the keyboard. The laptops performance hasn’t been affected by this, but the noise is getting worse as the days go on. What could this be? I have everything backed up just in case, but I think the fan is just offset or something. I didn’t open up the laptop to look because I’m terrible with computers, but I can see the fan is very dusty.

If it is only the fan, what could I do to fix this?

What else could it be? Performance hasn’t been an issue, just the sound
Thanks. Do you think it is only the fan? I’ve been told it could be the video card or the hard drive, but my sister played the sims 3 on it for a while with no problem. I bought one of those fans to put under my laptop just in case that’s what it was and I haven’t had any overheating issues. I did that as soon as the sound started, so I don’t know how it was before I got the portable fan.

I would suggest you go and have that fan replaced.
